Who We Are

Our Story

We’ve been in business since 2005, but our story begins a decade prior.

Back in the mid-nineties a good friend of my Dad’s – Peter from Japan (I later built his website) - gave our family a 28K modem and a subscription to Compuserve - one of the pioneering Internet Service Providers. I remember dragging our computer onto the kitchen table and plugging it into the phone line.

I guess you could say that was the beginning.

I’d been right into drawing and art since I was very young and by the time the Internet arrived I must have been about 15. Already, I was attempting to create animations with our sluggish PC and it wasn’t long before I sent an ‘Email’ (new concept at the time) to Peter with a link to my first website.

I signed up for a high school subject in interactive multimedia, which first opened my eyes to the artistic opportunities with emerging technologies.

A new millennium dawned and I headed for University. Armed with a lime green iMac I tackled a bachelor of Design, Multimedia Design at the Swinburne National School of Design in Melbourne. In my final year of study a good mate of mine Ivan Smith hired me as a part time graphic designer at his business Communiqué Graphics.

Explosive Creativity.

The following year I was looking for full time work, and while Ivan didn’t want to expand and give me a job, he offered me a corner of his office to freelance. I called my business ‘Designamite Explosive Creativity’. It was a great name until I received a nasty letter from the trademark holder!

After 8 months of freelancing I had developed a number of commercial websites and was offered a job at Accsys IT as web designer. This position threw me in the deep end. I was the web design department and I quickly learned how to connect a website to a database, custom building a number of content management systems for clients. Towards the end of my time at Accsys IT I was involved the early development of the Pegboard CMS.

Nick Dubé Creative Design

In December 2005 my wife Leanne and I began a home-based business called ‘Nick Dubé Creative Design’. The plan was to pursue my other passion – music – which would be funded by my graphic design work. As it turned out, my design business got busy. Really busy.

By 2007 we had part-time help, and our website for Holley Nethercote Commercial Lawyers was awarded Best Small Law Firm Website and Best Australian Law Firm Website at the Thompson FindLaw Website Awards.

Our business continued to grow, completing work for organisations such as World Vision, Cricket Australia, National Hearing Care and Ward Keller Lawyers in Darwin.

Dubé Creative

In 2010 the time had come to expand so we topped n’ tailed our name and leased a studio in the City Edge building, located at the centre of Narre Warren. This move took our business to the next level.

Krystle Wright joined the team as our first full time employee in January 2011, Nicole Goldup as Web Technician in July, and with Kristy Ratten as client services co-ordinator we now have a full circle team. An ideal balance of creative, technical and management experience to provide a professional web design service.

We’ve been in our studio for a year now, we love our work, and we’re looking forward to exciting things to come.
